My First Airbnb Experience

IMG_9151 2

Just a little over a week ago, David and I had our first ever Airbnb experience together. For past travels, we’ve either just stayed at a hotel or crashed at a friend or family member’s house. We had such a great time, and expectations were more than met. At the last minute, we decided we wanted to go to NYC before the Palm Springs airport stopped doing direct flights to New York in the summer. Unfortunately, hotel prices were already going up. I didn’t want to settle for a mediocre or less-than-mediocre hotel, so I resorted to browsing through Airbnb listings. Best decision ever — since I was able to find the cutest little abode for our 4-night stay without breaking the bank!

This charming, Moroccan-style Airbnb is located in Brooklyn in the Bushwick area, within walking distance to plenty of bodegas, and fast food options (including DELICIOUS & AFFORDABLE ASIAN FOOD!), art murals, and public transportation. Luckily, we didn’t have to take much public transportation on this trip because my lovely friend Jenn of Jubilant Dose and her boyfriend took us around in their car most of the time (Jenn, if you’re reading this – THANK YOU <3)! But, we did take the subway into the city on one of the days we were there and the ride wasn’t bad at all.

Our host, Jonathan was lovely. Let me first say that he definitely has an eye for design and really knows how to make a dated, small place look so darn Insta-worthy! I mean, I couldn’t stop admiring all the little trinkets and plants he put together to make this such a memorable stay for his guests. It’s not often at all you come across any accommodation with a hammock to swing around in above the bed, or an adorable little book nook to relax in! While the weather was for the most part, pretty pleasant while we were in NYC, it did get cold for a couple of nights. I’m so thankful that he had space heaters and an extra blanket for us to use. The place was furnished well so we never had to bother him for anything. He was also flexible with check-in/check-out times depending on our flight itinerary, which I felt was a nice touch.

Throughout our entire stay, we felt so inspired to totally redecorate our house to look like this. I know we were on vacation and all… but is it bad that I just wanted to spend my entire days in this little apartment?! Jonathan, you did good. Our stay was too short! I can’t wait to be back.

Have you stayed at an Airbnb before? What was your experience like?

    1. It is super charming, isn’t it? Ah, I hope that you’ll be able to stay in a nicer one soon! If you’re visiting NYC/Brooklyn area I definitely recommend this one xx

    1. Oh no! I’m sorry that you had to deal with a roof with leaking water on your whole trip. That doesn’t sound like fun at all. Hopefully your next stay will be much more pleasant!

    1. I definitely couldn’t have asked for more. I look forward to experiencing more Airbnb’s in the future! Thanks darling – I’m glad you enjoyed reading xx

  5. This place looks lovely! My husband and I will have to keep that in mind on our next trip.

I haven’t technically started in an airbnb but my mother-in-law has an apartment she rents out through airbnb in California — we’ve stayed there. Does that count? LOL

    1. Ahhh I think you and your husband would love this one if you’re ever visiting New York City! Hahaha I would say that that counts! Hopefully her place was cozy and comfy too 😉

  6. What a lovely Airbnb! I haven’t tried an airbnb just yet but I’m really interested in booking one the next time we travel. I love the way Jonathan decorated his space as well! it’s so cute! I’m hoping when I decide to book an Airbnb I have a good stay like you!

    1. Ahhh I definitely recommend it! Jonathan has an impeccable eye for design for sure. I am hoping that future Airbnb’s I book will be nice like this one hehe

  7. I love Airbnb! I usually prefer them to hotels because it’s cheaper and it’s more homey. I just had my first bad experience this weekend where the host cancelled 🙁 but it was my fault because I booked it even though I had a bad feeling. Luckily I got a full refund and found another place that seems a lot better.

    1. I totally agree with you girl, but I’m so sorry about your recent bad experience. I imagine it’d be a nightmare if the host cancelled at the last minute! AHHH! I hope you were able to find another decent place to stay darling!

  8. I always stay at Airbnb’s when I travel but wow I have never seen anything like that interior! It seems like the perfect place for you so I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay!

  9. This is the cutest AirBnb ever!! Makes me want to redecorate my apartment. I’m glad you had a good first experience! AirBnB is really where I look to first when I travel!

  10. What a cute space and totally instagram worthy I see. These photos are so gorgeous and the space is beautiful. AirBNB is totally hit and miss to me but if you spend and really pay attention to reviews, it’s awesome. I always take train and walk in NYC. It’s the best part of being in the city to me since it’s a metropolitan place and you discover so many great places to eat wandering around. 🙂 This is such a cute spot. Brooklyn is convenient and great if you are near transit. I try to stay in Manhattan, but one of these days I’ll check this spot out.

    1. I agree babe. Since it was my first time trying out Airbnb I was really careful to check reviews and made sure to read everything carefully LOL guess all that diligence paid off because this place was just amazing! Definitely more than what I could have asked for. I wish that this place was closer to Manhattan though but hey, I guess you can’t have it all! Next time, I’ll try looking for an Airbnb in Manhattan to stay in 🙂

  11. What a gorgeous venue! I love the decor! I’ve yet to stay in an Airbnb – thanks for sharing your experience! I feel much better about booking one now!

  12. This AirBnB looks so inspiring! It’s truly beautiful. I think you got lucky to stay somewhere I like this! I’ve never stayed in one, but in NY I feel like that would be an excellent alternative to a hotel in order to save some funds and have the space you want while you’re on vacation! Love it!

    1. Yes, I got really lucky! I had to share! Hahaha <3 I didn't expect to find an Airbnb like this in New York though because actually it looks more like something you'd find in Palm Springs LOL

  13. This is a beautiful Airbnb and you were so lucky you found this place! And thats so cool you got to hang out with Jenn 🙂 I feel like Airbnbs are a hit or miss sometimes but I should really try using it next time I travel!
    xo Samantha
