I’m a strong believer in setting goals and staying inspired to meet them. With everything becoming so digitalized these days, it’s easy to lose track of the things that matter and really focus on achieving what you want in life. Vision boards are game-changers for me. They exist to remind me of my dreams and why I need to stay motivated to go after them. If you’re a visual person like I am, you’ll definitely benefit from making one or a few for yourself! 🙂
WHAT IS A VISION BOARD?
While vision boards allow you to get really creative and make them pretty, they’re actually a lot more than just that. Essentially, they exist to remind you of your goals, aspirations, and dreams. There are so many different types of vision boards you can make, and no strict rules for what you can and cannot do. You can make it as specific or as broad as you want it to be. It could consist of photos from a magazine that invoke a special feeling, words that you live by, and so much more.
Career driven like I am? Making a vision board will help you stay on your toes. One of my goals is to steadily grow as a blogger. Fashion blogging is so competitive and saturated; it’s easy to get stuck in the noise. Focus and consistency are both extremely important for success in anything. With that said, my vision board includes photos that appeal to me and what I’m personally aiming for. When shooting time comes around, my beautographer and I can conveniently refer to the board to pull inspiration on location, lighting, photography style, model poses, etc. Words are just as powerful as photos can be, so occasionally I also like to include inspirational quotes or words of wisdom that speak to me.
Since creating my vision board, I’ve found myself actively exploring new ideas and trying new things for continued growth. Rather than constantly wishing I was at someone else’s level, I’m more focused on how and what I need to do to get there myself.
WHY MAKE ONE?
Simply put, vision boards encourage you to really think about all the things in life that you aspire for. The first step to realizing any dream is clearly knowing what it is. Next up is, being reminded of it on a regular basis so that you continually work hard to achieve it. By surrounding yourself with images, text, and things that reflect who you want to become, what you want to have, where you want to live, or where you want to travel, you will stay motivated to work toward achieving your goals. Life can get hectic, so it’s nice to have a physical entity that holds all your reminders in one organized place.
HOW ARE VISION BOARDS MADE?
The best part about creating a vision board is that it’s super easy and fun! Supplies you’ll need will add up to less than $5 from your local dollar store. I went to the nearest 99 cent store to get a decent sized foam board, scissors, and a glue stick. Inspiration is everywhere. For starters, you can find and cut things out from old magazines, or print material from the Internet that strikes your eye. Feel free to get creative and even glue on actual items that remind you of your life desires, too! The finished product is a current reflection of your dreams, and hopefully a decorative collage that you’re proud of hanging up somewhere. 😉
Personally, I am the type to believe something when I see it. So, when I see a collection of items that come together to remind me of what I really want in life, I feel more focused and inclined to go for it!
What are your thoughts on vision boards? Have you made any for yourself recently?
