Back With a Career Update…

Wow. It has been over two years since my last post. After spending a day redesigning this old blog that was literally my LIFE, I’m honestly sad that I failed to keep up for so long. I didn’t realize that going through and reading old blog posts would make me so emotional. It’s crazy how words and photos can vividly take you back in time and immerse you in those moments!

The truth is, the pandemic took a toll on my mental health and forced me to shift my career path a bit. I was getting sick of the “influencer” life where it always felt like a toxic numbers game. Mentally, I could feel my health declining fast. But I am eternally grateful for my supportive friends and loving partner always rooting for me. After some thought, I’ve decided to bring back Style Lullaby (yes, on Instagram, too!) – and make her better than ever before.

I have a lot of personal life updates that I will share over the next posts, but today I wanted to give a little career update: I’m a full-time freelance content writer and product photographer now… which explains the new look of the website! The home page is essentially a portfolio of everything I’ve been up to in the past few years.

Freelance content writer

During the height of Style Lullaby blogging days, I took on freelance copywriting jobs for clients that I got through word-of-mouth. It was very part-time though. At the time, I didn’t have the bandwidth for a ton of writing projects as I was a full-time content creator for Style Lullaby.

When I went on my social media hiatus, I gave my LinkedIn a total makeover and started ghostwriting for other bloggers, resource websites, digital marketing agencies, business owners, and realtors. I have been getting amazing feedback from my clients! It has been a rewarding and fun experience, and I love that I’m learning something new every day.

After writing both short-form content (product descriptions, social media copy, website headlines) and long-form content (blog posts and informational guides/articles), I learned that my strength lies in long-form content! So, I’ve been building my writing business by honing in on this specialty. I’m a versatile writer covering topics ranging from education, home security, senior living, medical aesthetics, technology, and more. It has been incredible expanding my knowledge in various fields outside of fashion and beauty, where this all started.

UGC Creator

I’m a firm believer in the concept of “quality over quantity,” and wanted my work to reflect that, with plenty of substance and longevity. No more keeping up with Instagram’s constantly changing algorithm, and stressing over inauthentic likes and comments. As I get older, it just feels more absurd. So in recent years, I shifted to user-generated content creation (UGC) where I produce stand-out images and short engaging video clips for brands to use on their websites and social media channels.

Clients have been pleased with my approach because:

  • they no longer have to take the risk of hiring a new creator for every project
  • they can count on consistent quality each time

I have set up direct-hire/monthly retainers with businesses where they get an agreed number of new photos for their commercial needs at the beginning of each month.

All they have to do is:

  • send me the product(s) they want to be photographed
  • share a mood board if they have one (if not, I take creative direction)

From there, I work with my partner to take care of everything:

  • source relevant props
  • set up lights and photo gear as needed
  • product styling
  • shoot products while adhering to provided style guides
  • post-processing (color-correcting & retouching)
  • deliver top-notch visual assets within a week

Quality photos and consistent blog posts are crucial to success for any business today. They work together to creatively sell your product or service, build consumer trust, increase SEO and improve your Google ranking, educate your audience, and establish authority in your niche. If you (or anyone you know) are looking for a freelance content writer or product photographer, email me! Let’s connect and discuss how we can work together to scale your business.

What’s Ahead for Style Lullaby?

Those of you who have been with me since day one may recognize this photo. David and I took it to commemorate Style Lullaby’s one-year anniversary in September 2015. Not gonna lie – I miss freestyle blogging and documenting my favorite fashion trends, beauty things, travels, and all… So when I’m not writing for clients or on Medium, I will do my best to share personal updates here… just like the good ol’ days!
