Who’s excited for the pool parties, BBQ picnics, and other 4th of July festivities next week? I know I am! You guys know that I love dressing up for occasions like this, so I thought I’d pop in on the blog to share some fun outfit ideas for Independence Day, in case you’re still shopping around.
SIDE NOTE | It was SO windy when we shot this set of photos; we probably got 300+ snaps and only 5 or so that turned out decently. I didn’t think I was even going to like any of these, but sometimes you just gotta work with what you got. It didn’t help that I was too lazy to style my hair that day and the wind made it super flat and/or weird looking. I even had to hold my hair down in some of the shots.
LESSON LEARNED | Check the wind forecast prior to leaving the house, and style hair accordingly.
In other news, this is the first official look we’ve shot for the blog with my new Fujifilm X-T2 camera on a 23 mm lens, and I edited the photos! This is exciting to me because David normally shoots on his massive Nikon and edits the photos himself. It’s been nice carrying a smaller camera around for casual OOTD shots like these, and using the Nikon for higher end detailed shots. As far as editing goes, I still have a lot to learn. All I know is that I have been obsessed with the muted vintage film look. How did I do?!
Okay, enough stalling – now let’s get on with the outfit ideas!
One of the things I’m looking forward to most this Independence Day is spending quality time at the pool with my loved ones. I don’t know about you, but I could literally spend all day floating around, sharing good conversation, and even reading out by the pool! There are so many cute bikinis and even one-pieces out right now that are suitable for the occasion. Personally, I prefer to wear bandeau tops and bikini bottoms when I go out to the pool because that way, I’m able to get the most out of my time under the sun (I mean, if I’m going out there, I might as well work on my tan, right?). But, I totally understand if you don’t care for a tan & prefer the one-piece, or maybe even a cover-up altogether when you’re out of the pool. Lately, I’ve also been seeing SO many adorable pool floats. I already have two but can’t seem to get enough. I may just have to get another one, or two, or maybe a whole new collection of them! While I’m all for acquiring some Vitamin D and a rich brown skin tone, I never leave the house without sun protection. You sort of pick up on that *good!* habit after living in the desert for a year. So babes, don’t forget to apply sunscreen!
After a fun-filled afternoon at the pool, you’ll likely get hungry for some delicious barbecue! Honestly, I haven’t had homemade BBQ in ages. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I did! But, we recently found out that our house can accommodate a natural gas BBQ grill. So, we are now on the lookout for a good one – hopefully in time for 4th of July. Recommendations are welcome 🙂 It would be nice to enjoy some barbecue right in our backyard overlooking the beautiful golf course, followed by a warm desert sunset!
