Those of you who have been following me on Instagram and seeing my Stories may know that I recently dyed my hair lavender! For the longest time, I stuck with blonde because it’s safe and looks natural on me. After moving to Palm Springs and not having a hair stylist nearby, the last thing I wanted was something high maintenance. A few years back before I quit modeling to create content full-time, I had the pleasure of working with a really talented make-up artist, Jeanne San Diego on set. Turns out, she also does hair and has her own studio called Salon One 9 in Walnut, California. Located in the Inland Empire vicinity, this is around 1.5-2 hours (or less with no traffic) from Palm Springs. Yes, a far drive but totally worth it because she is amazing at what she does! First, I had her touch up my blonde shortly after I moved here. I was really pleased with the results 🙂 During that session, we had spoken about trying something fun and different for summer. Since unicorn hair has been trending everywhere, we went for the lavender transformation last week!
The process pretty much took a full day because while I had light hair already which helped, my roots were still dark. Half of the day was spent to really lighten them, and the other half was spent turning purple. By the end of it all, I was really amazed by the results.
First, Jeanne lightened my hair to level 9/10 with Guy Tang’s Mydentity cream lightener big9 +20 vol developer + B3 Brazilian Bond Builder to protect my locks. After bleaching my hair, I couldn’t believe how bright blonde I was. It was to the point where I was contemplating dying my eyebrows blonde too so I wouldn’t look so weird. I didn’t have to panic for long though; the next step was going purple! Jeanne achieved this in two zones. First, she used 6 Dusty Lavender from Guy Tang’s Mydentity line, then 8 Dusty Lavender + Dark Shadows on the roots.
The roots were a bit stubborn because they were so much darker than the rest of my hair, but we managed to get rid of the much dreaded yellow tint. After all this, my hair had no trace of that awkward blonde and to my surprise, was a lot darker than I had anticipated. My hair looked beautiful straight but we decided to add some waves for volume. For the extra oomph, we used 3-4 squirts of Puff Me.
I have only washed my hair once in the past week because I know that the color fades with every wash. I’m not ready for the pretty purple to disappear! Dry shampoo has really been my best friend 😉
These photos were taken the day of the service. My hair was a brighter purple — almost a bit too bright for my liking BUT I wanted it this way because I wanted more fading time.
These photos were taken almost a week after the service, with one wash. My hair is more of a lavender now, with greyish tones. Just the way I love it!!! Here’s to hoping I can keep this color for a month (I know, good luck to me lol).
Part of the reason why I felt so brave to try this color is because I knew it would eventually fade back to blonde. This means low-maintenance — right up my alley! Even after one wash, I already see some blonde peeking out. Jeanne gave me a special type of purple shampoo by Celeb Luxury to take home with me. The Viral Pastel Purple Colorwash shampoo is supposed to cleanse and deposit purple pigment into the hair with every wash. However, I wasn’t so sure how to use it the first time… so I don’t think I left it in long enough for much color to deposit. I ended up losing color rather than gaining if anything. I’ll be washing my hair again this weekend and leave the shampoo in for longer and see how it turns out!
I have gotten SO many compliments on my hair that I decided to share my experience with you all here on my blog! I hope you enjoyed it 🙂 Some of you have asked me whether I’ll go purple (or try another fashion color) after this fades. I think I’ll probably go back to blonde by default because it’s easier to maintain and looks more natural. While the purple is super fun, I don’t think it’s something I’d want to have forever.
If you are in Southern California, I highly recommend Jeanne for any hair service. She is great at listening to client desires and efficiently delivers quality results! She also does make-up and hair for weddings. So, if you’re getting married this summer or know someone who is, she’s your girl!
Have you gone out of your comfort zone with your hair lately? What kind of transformation did you go for?
