Best Treatments to Combat Dry & Chapped Lips

_DSC7499 2

Lip service please! Chapped lips is an issue I’ve dealt with for longer than I can remember. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, moving to the desert unfortunately exacerbated the issue. With that said, I knew I had to quickly find products that would not only heal, but also hydrate my lips, and keep them healthy overall. If this sounds like a problem you deal with regularly, you’re in luck because I’ve done all the experimenting for you. Say hello to a pretty pout with my favorite lip treatments and simple lip care routine 🙂

LIP SCRUBS

Not sure where to begin? The key to remedying chapped lips is to scrub off any loose debris and dead skin cells. This is where lip scrubs come in really handy! If you don’t have one yet, exfoliating with a gentle toothbrush and some coconut oil will give you a similar result. If you’re a DIY kind of person, you can also make your own lip scrub at home with simple ingredients like sugar and honey.

I have found lip scrubs to be worthwhile investments for keeping my lips consistently smooth. They are great “primers” for moisturizers, allowing them to really penetrate the skin and hydrate like they are supposed to. A good lip scrub isn’t hard to find, and if you’re on a tight budget you can always pop into your local Walmart or Target and get your hands on one for under $10! I personally love Burt’s Bees’ all natural conditioning lip scrub with honey crystals. If you’re up for a splurge, I highly recommend FRESH’s sugar lip polish as it smells heavenly and leaves my pout silky smooth!

LIP MOISTURIZERS

After a thorough scrubbing, it’s time to hydrate! The good news is, there are many great lip balms and moisturizers that are both affordable and effective. For example, Vaseline petroleum jelly is always a fail-safe option for me. I also recently started trying out Aquaphor’s healing ointment on my lips. It works just as well and has a very similar consistency as petroleum jelly. These products are perfect for everyday wear to keep the lips moisturized. If you suffer from cracked lips, you can count on them for healing too.

Every so often, I also like to use Patchology’s FLASHPATCH hydrating lip gels after scrubbing and before moisturizing. You can think of these gels as serum equivalents, but for the lips! I briefly talked about these in my previous blog post about my most-loved skin care products — just in case you’re curious and want to learn more about them.

There you have it – my favorite lip treatments to maintain a happy, healthy pout! While I have a pretty good lip routine under my belt now, I’m always open to trying new products. So, if you know of any holy grails for dry lips I’d love to hear them!

Do you suffer from dry lips? How do you deal with it?
