Seeing Stars

I’m feeling under the weather as I write this, but even in the darkest moments I’m still seeing stars. David caught a bug immediately after we got back from Chicago and despite my efforts to keep a distance from him while he was ill, I still caught it. Ugh. I rarely get sick but when I do, it always feels like I get slammed hard! I’ve been itching to shoot some fun fall looks (even have them all put together in my closet) but that’ll have to wait until this cold passes. In the mean time though, I wanted to share a quick series of photos that David and I got recently. We discovered a beautiful locale in Palm Desert, which is now our go-to secret spot.ย I’ll let this impromptu editorial speak for itself…

I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on this red star number. You may have seen it all over Instagram — it’s Realisation Par’s iconic Alexandra dress. I’ve had my eyes set on it for over a year now and decided it was finally time to cave and get it. I adore the ruffle detailing and the fact that it’s super flattering on my small framed body! For size reference, I got it in XXS. As we transition into *actual* fall and winter temperatures, I can totally see myself layering a cozy sweater over it.

Lately, I’ve been really into the vintage vibes. For a while, I took a break from editing my photos on VSCO because I preferred more bright and cheery images, but now it’s like I can’t post anything without running my photo through that app first. This dress totally screams vintage, but at the same time has that timeless, modern feel to it. Speaking of vintage vibes, I have a Polaroid camera that I always forget to bring with me on shoots. For this set of photos, I made a point to bring it out. We didn’t get the best Polaroids since the sun was just way too bright at the time, but I’m determined to eventually get a few that I’m proud of in this dress. For now, these photos will do!

In case you can’t tell, I’m clearly still holding onto summer with this bamboo clutch. While it’s definitely cooled down a lot here, it doesn’t feel like summer is going away any time soon. And I’m not mad about that! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do you have a summer dress you plan on bringing into fall?

    1. Thank you so much for the well wishes Mariann! You’re so right — getting sick is terrible but hopefully with rest I can recover quickly. Hope your week is off to a great start! xo

  1. Omg I have actually seen this dress around and itโ€™s so cute on you! I donโ€™t know that I would be able to pull it off though. Sorry to hear that youโ€™re sick โ€” I think somethings going around because people in the office have been ill too. Get well soon babe!

  2. Don’t ever let go of summer whatever you do babe! I’m sorry to hear you’re both suffering from that bug and hope you’ll get better soon. I know what it’s like when you’ve got a 1000 things you want and need to do, but the fact is, even we bloggers get sick, even though we don’t have time to be sick. Allow yourself to get well though and take of yourself. In the meantime I’ll adore these beautiful pictures and oh, you’re way too self critical regarding the polaroids btw! <3

  3. Sorry to hear that you are feeling under the weather. I am like you. I RARELY get sick. But, it seems that when I do, it catches up to me hard. On the other note, you look absolutely divine in this look. I am staring at the bamboo clutch and want one so badly. I see it everywhere, but haven’t gotten my hands on one yet.

    1. Thank you Ayana! My cold has definitely subsided since I wrote this post and for that I’m super thankful! ๐Ÿ™‚ You’d rock the bamboo clutch! It has been quite a hit and I think it’s perfect for summer. Summer is technically over in Palm Springs but it still feels like it haha

  4. I absolutely love this dress! The red print is on trend for fall and the ruffles and the print make it feminine and fun. I definitely see this dress taken into fall too! It is a classic dress that you can wear for a long time. It is still so hot in SoCal so that bamboo bag fits in perfectly. I hope you are feeling much better now…it sucks to get sick after traveling. I don’t have a summer dress to take into fall but I have lots of skirts that I plan on still wearing with some cozy knits and coats. xoxo, Christine

    1. Thanks Christine! I am head over heels for the star print trend right now haha ๐Ÿ™‚ it’s still SUPER hot in Palm Springs… can’t believe its 100 degrees in the middle of October haha. Hopefully it’s a bit cooler where you are!

  5. What a beautiful dress. I recently got the flu – sure puts a damper on your activities. Still trying to recover but with that said, here in California we are still wearing summer clothes. Can be a very great transitional piece.

  7. You say “these photos will do” like they’re sub-par to polaroid photos! But girlfriend, these photos are STUNNING. The secret location you two found is just to die for. I want to jump into these pics and do a photoshoot for myself. What a fun vibe! I feel you on the editing as well. During the fall and winter, there’s just something about a semi-vintage, almost grainy feel to photos that just speaks to me on a different level than the rest of the year! I hope you feel better soon and get a chance to shoot even more fantastic fall content!

    1. Haha!! Well I mean I realllllyyy wanted to get some nice Polaroids on this shoot! LOL! But don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with how these ones turned out ๐Ÿ™‚ thank you so much for the love Stephanie! 1. Thanks Jenn! David and I are recovering nicely thankfully haha. We’re starting to catch up on work and all that good stuff ๐Ÿ˜‰ I do plan on rocking that bamboo clutch all seasons! Especially in California that won’t be hard because it’s the middle of October and still 100 degrees out. I meannnnn…. is it summer or fall? Lol

  13. Aww I’m sorry to hear you got sick after your trip, but hoping you feel a lot better now! This dress looks really good on you, and I can see why you would want to use the VSCO app to edit the photos. Has that really romantic vibe to the photos <3

  14. These are absolutely GORGEOUS! I’ve definitely stepped away from VSCO because it gives it this more muted vibe and sometimes I just want something more vibrant! I know how you feel. I hope you get better love!

    1. Thanks girl! I know haha it’s hard for me to keep my IG feed consistent because sometimes I’ll want bright and cheery while other days I want more of that film look. lol!

  15. I looove Rรฉalisation Par! They’re collection does have a gorgeous vintage vibe to it and I want everything – if only haha! This dress looks amazing on you! The star print is so fab. I think they have a top of this style too which I’d really love to get one day.

    xo, Jo

    1. Thanks Jo! I am totally with you. Yes, I do think you’re correct about having a top in this style! I wouldn’t mind having that one too ๐Ÿ˜‰ hehe xx
