Faux Fur Sweater | From Chicago to Los Angeles

IMG_2093

Winter feels far away from us in California with temperatures still in the high 90’s into hundreds. Yet, David and I have already started getting in the holiday spirit by getting our fall decor, Christmas tree, and wintery candles ready at home. The only thing we haven’t really been able to do is change up our wardrobes for the season! It’s just been so hot that we’re still in our tees and shorts. When we went to Chicago a few weeks ago, we were able to escape the heat for a bit. Of course, I seized the opportunity to finally wear a chic faux fur sweater, pants, and boots! It was a refreshing change from my usual lightweight summer dresses that I wear out regularly in the desert.

I saw this navy blue sweater on the latest H&M campaign and it was calling my name. With many around the world already sporting faux fur, wool coats, berets, knits, and boots, I just can’t help but feel a bit… conflicted. It’s a battle I can’t win — I absolutely love the summer weather here and don’t want it to go away, but then I have days where I just want it to be cooler so I can change up my outfits. Since my fall/winter stuff is usually in storage for literally 10 months out of the year, it’s hard to justify spending heaps of $$$ on sweaters and coats — despite how tempting it can be.

Luckily, this beauty was priced fairly at $50 USD. I love that it’s a cozy knit sweater with faux fur accents on the sleeves. It looks so luxurious! For a day out exploring downtown Chicago, I wore it with leather pants and grey over the knee boots. I don’t think I’ve worn pants once since moving to Palm Springs, and it’s probably been a good year since I got to wear over the knee boots.

After we got back from Chicago, we made a spontaneous trip to LA. It’s a lot warmer there, but nights do get chilly. Since traffic going back home is terrible until late night, we stayed out and got some night shots in Chinatown. The sweater and skirt combo is a lot more fitting for Southern California. I had been searching for the perfect gold pleated accordion skirt for the longest time and was so happy to find this online exclusive on Forever 21’s website for around $50 (similar here). It comes in a dark silver too. After discovering how great the quality of this gold one was, I wanted to get it! Unfortunately, when I went back to look, it was already sold out in my size. The gold one sold out super quickly in all sizes so I’m really glad I bit the bullet when I did.

As you can tell in the last photo, I had a pretty bad hair day… hehe. Hey, it was a long day. But nothing that a good hat (similar here) can’t fix, right? 😉

Do you have a sweater in your closet that seems to go well with anything?

  2. That gold skirt is so pretty! I would love to have one and also I’ll take it in silver too. The sweater looks really cozy and definitely really luxurious with the faux fur sleeves. Love both the looks you created with it!

  3. I loose this outfit girl. And hey, your pictures are just magnificent, really like how much life you give that skirt. Always been a fan of H&M too, that just happens to be from Sweden just like me. Have a lovely weekend pretty lady! :*

  4. That sweater is so gorgeous! I want a faux fur sweater like this, it looks super warm. LOVE the metallic skirt too, such a statement piece! I just wish the temperatures in Los Angeles would just be a lot lower during the day, hehe! It’s still way to hot!

  5. It definitely looks like a luxurious sweater, especially with the rest of the neutral outfit. Such a good look! I remember feeling the same way when I lived in CA, wishing the weather would cool down so I could wear some fall outfits. Hope you have a great weekend, lady!

  6. Wow, all of these fall photos are getting me into the spirit of the holiday season too. It’s been so hot in SoCal I’m beginning to think we won’t have a fall afterall and go straight to winter. I am all about faux fur so I love the cozy sweater and jacket you are sporting in this post. The leather coated pants and OTK boots are such a fab look in Chicago. I’ve been looking for a metallic pleated skirt like this and it’s sold out everywhere so you are darn lucky to have snagged one for yourself that fits your itty bitty frame! You look stunning in all these photos and love the night shots since they aren’t typically what you do. Hopefully we are in for some cooler temps soon! xoxo, Christine

  8. Can we just take a second to appreciate the beauty of these photos? I’m in love! The dark, moody vibe is amazing! Both outfits are incredible – and I never would’ve thought your hair was looking bad – you always look like a goddess to me!

  9. I own a faux fur jacket and love it because it’s such a statement piece and once you wear it, you don’t really have to put too much details into your actual outfit. Loving all the pictures and you captured Chicago really well!

    1. I totally agree with you babe! Whenever I’m lazy and don’t want to accessorize too much I just throw on something with faux fur. It’s just too bad that it’s still scorching hot out here in the desert and it’s almost December. So hard to believe!

  10. I actually just bought a few sweaters from H&M! They were warm, yet thin enough to still bear the TX heat we’ve been experiencing lately. What a lovely faux fur jacket you’re wearing too. I could definitely use one myself 🙂

  11. Well, the first time obviously hasn’t happened to me yet as I apparently spend far too little time in H&M and Forever21, but after seeing how luxurious and elegant your outfit is with minimum input of money I need to re-evaluate my way of thinking and stepping in there a bit more often for sure! And glad you got to experience my London/Stockholm weather up there in Chicago, if only briefly, haha. 🙂

    1. Hahaha thanks Thomas! I rarely used to shop at H&M but recently started to because it’s one of the decent places to find things quickly out here in the desert. Shopping options out here are pretty sad LOL

  12. Oh my goodness, these shots are absolutely stunning! I actually have a gift card to H&M and you have convinced me to go snag that faux fur jacket right up! I love how you showed two different ways to style it, and I’m obsessed with that gold skirt. Such a great piece for the holiday season!

    1. Thanks babe! I know right? I wish we shot more frequently when we lived in LA because there aren’t many great spots to shoot at night here in the desert. I guess I will just have to go back to LA more frequently to get shots like this! Thanks darling!

  15. OMG you were able to get both of these pieces for only $50?! They look so lux! You certainly grabbed the best deals hehe. I think this is one of my favorite outfits – the faux fur sweater and the gold pleated skirt! Always killing it hehe and these night time shots are so lovely! I’m always used to daytime shots. You might have inspired me to try a night shoot for myself hehe 🙂

    With love, Jenn

    1. Thanks Jenn! I rarely go out at night and I’m happy that the one time I did, we were able to get some cool shots! I think you would too and I’d love to see them if you do try a night shoot 🙂
